P120连环蛋白是一种细胞粘附分子，广泛存在于上皮细胞、血管内皮细胞、巨噬细胞、成纤维细胞等黏附功能较强的细胞中，其可与钙黏蛋白(cadherin)结合形成复合体，共同介导细胞黏附和信号转导。研究发现，P120在多种肿瘤的发生发展中发挥了重要作用，其表达量的下降或缺失会破坏细胞间的黏附性并诱导细胞分化的丧失，进而促使癌细胞的浸润和转移。因此在临床上，P120常与E-cadherin联合应用于乳腺癌、前列腺癌、肺癌、结直肠癌、膀胱癌等肿瘤的预后评估中。其中，P120和E-cadherin已成为鉴别诊断浸润性乳腺导管癌(IDC)和浸润性乳腺小叶癌(ILC)的有效指标，这是因为在IDC中两者均定位于癌细胞膜，而在ILC中E-cadherin表达缺失并导致P120蓄积于癌细胞浆中。
