P120 catenin is a cell adhesion molecule that widely exists in epithelial cells, vascular endothelial cells, macrophages, fibroblasts and other cells with strong adhesion function. It can bind with cadherin to form a complex, mediating cell adhesion and signal transduction. Some research has found that P120 plays an important role in the occurrence and development of various tumors. The decrease or loss of its expression will disrupt intercellular adhesion and induce the deprivation of cell differentiation, thereby promoting the infiltration and metastasis of cancer cells. Therefore, P120 is often used in combination with E-cadherin to evaluate the prognosis of breast cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer, colorectal cancer, bladder cancer and other tumors. Among them, P120 and E-cadherin have become effective indicators for the differential diagnosis of invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) and invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC). This is because they both are located on cancer cell membrane in IDC, but in ILC, the loss of E-cadherin leads to the accumulation of P120 in cancer cell cytoplasm.
