SALL4 is a zinc finger structural transcription factor in the Spalt family, which plays an important role in maintaining the self-renewal ability and multidirectional differentiation potential of embryonic stem cells (ESCs), and it is mainly existing in primordial germ cells in adults. In clinical practice, SALL4 is an important diagnostic biomarker for reproductive system tumors, with the expression rate of almost 100% in diseases such as seminoma, dysgerminoma, yolk sac tumor, and embryonal tumor. In addition, SALL4 is abnormally expressed in leukemia, lymphoma, liver cancer, lung cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, breast cancer and other tumors. Oncological research has found that SALL4 can activate epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and promote tumor angiogenesis to accelerate the invasion and metastasis of cancer cells, and it can participate in DNA repairing to resist the killing effect of chemotherapy drugs, indicating that SALL4 is closely related to the occurrence and development of tumors. Therefore, SALL4 has become a prognostic indicator for various cancers, providing a new direction for personalized treatment of patients.
