CD71, also known as transferrin receptor-1 (TFR1), is a transmembrane glycoprotein that widely exists in syncytiotrophoblast, hematopoietic stem cells, activated lymphocytes and other proliferating cells. It can mediate the internalization of iron element to meet the needs of cell proliferation. CD71 can be expressed in glioma, melanoma, lung cancer, liver cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer and other solid tumors, and its high expression is closely related to the malignant development of tumors, which is because the excessive production of CD71 can induce tumor cells to uptake a large amount of iron element to ensure the rapid synthesis of DNA, and inhibit apoptosis by abnormally activating NF-κB signaling pathway. Some research also found that CD71 in pancreatic cancer can accelerate aerobic respiration and up-regulate reactive oxygen species. In addition, CD71 is expressed in various lymphoid and hematopoietic system diseases such as acute myeloid leukemia, acute lymphocytic leukemia, Hodgkin lymphoma, and T cell lymphoma. In summary, CD71 has important reference significance for the prognostic evaluation of tumors.
