S100 calcium binding protein P (S100P) is a member of the S100 protein family, widely existing in placenta, spleen, digestive tract, bladder, and other tissues. It has various physiological functions such as promoting cell proliferation, regulating cell adhesion, and participating in inflammatory responses. Some research has found that S100P has abnormal high expression in multiple tumors, including lung cancer, liver cancer, colorectal cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, bladder cancer, etc. It is closely related to the invasion and metastasis of cancer cells, which may be because S100P can activate Ezrin protein to promote cell migration, indicating that S100P has important guiding significance for the prognosis evaluation of patients. Meanwhile, some scholars pointed out that S100P has been expressed in the early stage of pancreatic cancer and cholangiocarcinoma, and its expression level is up-regulated with tumor development, so it can be used as an early diagnostic indicator. In addition, S100P has become a crucial target in tumor therapy.
