GATA binding protein 3 (GATA3) is a zinc finger transcription factor that can specifically recognize GATA sequences in DNA, participating in the normal development and function maintaining of the breast, urinary system, and lymphatic system. GATA3 is mainly used to diagnose breast cancer. Especially, it can interact with ER and PR and thus be highly expressed in non-triple negative breast cancer, and its strong complementary expression pattern with SOX-10 can significantly improve the diagnostic sensitivity. Moreover, patients with high GATA3 expression have higher survival rate, which may be because GATA3 inhibits tumor metastasis by up-regulating E-cadherin. Similarly, its high expression is related to the good prognosis of bladder cancer and urothelial carcinoma, speculated that it synergizes with P18 to inhibit cell cycle progression. In addition, GATA3 can be expressed in Hodgkin lymphoma and is considered as a tumor suppressor, but it in peripheral T cell lymphoma may induce the production of M2 tumor associated macrophages by stimulating IL-10 expression, thereby promoting tumor development.
