P57KIP2 is a cell cycle regulatory protein encoded by tumor suppressor genes, which can reduce the activity of cyclin dependent kinases (CDKs) and prevent the progression of the cell cycle to inhibit cell proliferation. Meanwhile, P57 can participate in cell apoptosis and embryonic development through various regulatory mechanisms. Clinical diagnosis has found that P57 expression is decreased or even absent in glioma, liver cancer, kidney cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, ovarian cancer, breast cancer and other tumor tissues, which is related to the low differentiation degree, indicating that P57 provides an important reference value for the prognosis evaluation of various cancers. At the same time, oncological research suggests that the P57 gene commonly doesn't mutate in tumors, but inhibits expression through epigenetic changes. Therefore, reactivating the P57 gene has become a research highlight in tumor therapy. In addition, P57 is positively expressed in partial hydatidiform mole but negatively expressed in complete hydatidiform mole, which makes it become an ideal differentiating indicator.
