SOX-11

Sex determining region Y-box 11 (SOX-11) is a member of the SOX gene family. Its encoded product is crucial for the growth and differentiation of neural cells during embryonic development. In clinical practice, SOX-11 is a specific diagnostic biomarker for mantle cell lymphoma (MCL). The high expression of Cyclin D1 is an important standard for distinguishing MCL, but it isn’t expressed in about 5% to 10% of MCL. Therefore, SOX-11 expression is considered as the determination basis for Cyclin D1 negative MCL. Meanwhile, some research found that the high expression of SOX-11 may promote the occurrence and development of MCL, breast cancer and ovarian cancer, which is closely related to the poor prognosis of patients. In addition, SOX-11 is highly expressed in neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC). Especially, it can combine with CD56, CgA, SynSSS, and other antibodies for the diagnosis of small cell NEC (SCNEC). However, some scholars pointed out that SOX-11 can inhibit the growth of liver cancer and prostate cancer, indicating that SOX-11 plays completely different roles in different tumors.
