SOX-10

Sex determining region Y-box 10 (SOX-10) is a member of the SOX gene family. Its encoded product can regulate the growth of neural crest cells and ensure their multidirectional differentiation potential, which is also an indispensable factor in the embryonic development of the nervous system. SOX-10 can be applied in the research and diagnosis of nervous system tumors. For example, SOX-10 is expressed in granulosa cell tumor, glioblastoma, oligodendroglioma, pheochromocytoma, and other tumors. Especially, it is highly expressed in schwannoma and neurofibroma but not in meningioma, which makes it become a distinguishing indicator. Meanwhile, SOX-10 is considered as a specific biomarker for the triple negative breast cancer, and its strong complementary expression pattern with GATA3 can significantly improve the diagnostic sensitivity of breast cancer. Moreover, some scholars pointed out that SOX-10 exists in almost all melanomas, and it can enhance the invasiveness of cancer cells. In addition, SOX-10 has good diagnostic value for salivary gland tumors.
