CD34 is a transmembrane protein selectively expressed in hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells (HSC/HPCs), participate in the transportation and homing of hematopoietic cells during early development. CD34 can be expressed in acute myeloid leukemia (AML), acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL), chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), and other hematological tumors, especially its high expression is considered as a poor prognostic indicator for AML. Meanwhile, CD34 can be expressed in soft tissue tumors such as gastrointestinal stromal tumor, solitary fibroadenoma, and dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans. In addition, CD34 in vascular endothelial cells can participate in the generation and repairing of vessels. So it can assist in diagnosis of vascular tumors such as lobular capillary hemangioma, epithelioid hemangioendothelioma, angiosarcoma, and Kaposi's sarcoma. Moreover, CD34 is related to the development of lung cancer, liver cancer, stomach cancer, colorectal cancer, breast cancer and other tumors. This is because it can promote tumor angiogenesis to ensure the nutrition supply and invasiveness of cancer cells.
