Cyclin D1 is an important regulatory factor in the cell cycle, which can bind to CDK4/CDK6, phosphorylate RB1, and release transcription factor E2F, thereby activating DNA synthesis related genes and promoting the transition of the cell cycle from G1 phase to S phase. However, excessive production of Cyclin D1 will stimulate cells to reach the S phase prematurely, causing DNA repairing disorders, ultimately leading to damaged DNA accumulation and cellular carcinogenesis. Some research found that Cyclin D1 can be highly expressed in lung cancer, liver cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer and other malignant diseases, which may be caused by gene amplification or continuous activation of signal pathways, and its up-regulation is closely related to the occurrence, development and drug resistance of tumors, indicating that Cyclin D1 has reference significance for the prognosis evaluation of patients. In addition, about 90% of mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) has high expression of Cyclin D1 caused by IgH-Cyclin D1 gene fusion, which has become an important diagnostic indicator for MCL.
