CD38 is a type II transmembrane glycoprotein that widely exists in various cells such as lymphocytes, monocytes/macrophages, and follicular dendritic cells, participating in life activities such as cell proliferation, cell apoptosis, metabolic regulation, and immune activation. In clinical practice, CD38 has good diagnostic value in multiple myeloma, and its down-regulation is associated with disease progression and extramedullary infiltration. Meanwhile, CD38 can be expressed in B cell lymphomas with MYC gene rearrangement, including diffuse large B cell lymphoma, high-grade B cell lymphoma, Burkitt lymphoma, etc. Moreover, the high expression of CD38 is considered to be a good prognostic factor for liver cancer, prostate cancer and triple negative breast cancer, which may be because CD38 can weaken the energy metabolism of cancer cells. But it is related to the poor prognosis of NK/T cell lymphoma, speculated that CD38 can promote the activity of immunosuppressive cells and participate in the formation of inhibitory microenvironment. In addition, CD38 is up-regulated in acute myeloid leukemia and chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
