Renal cell carcinoma marker (RCC) is a monoclonal antibody that specifically recognizes and binds to the glycoprotein in the proximal tubular brush border of the human kidney. RCC can assist in the clinical diagnosis of primary and metastatic renal cell carcinoma. Some research has found that RCC has strong positive expression in most proximal tubular derived tumors such as renal clear cell carcinoma and papillary renal cell carcinoma, but its expression is downregulated or even absent in collecting duct derived tumors such as chromophobe renal cell carcinoma and renal oncocytoma. Therefore, it is often used in combination with CD10, Vimentin and other biomarkers for the classification and differentiation of renal tumors. In addition, some scholars pointed out that RCC can be expressed in some non-renal tumors such as breast cancer, prostate cancer, colorectal cancer, and melanoma. Especially, it is unable to effectively distinguish between adrenal cortical tumors and renal tumors, indicating that the value of using RCC alone is limited.
