CD117

CD117 is a transmembrane receptor with tyrosine kinase activity encoded by proto-oncogene C-KIT. Its binding with stem cell factors can participate in life activities such as cell survival, metabolism, proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and migration. Some research found that over 90% of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) have CD117 excessive production caused by C-KIT mutation, which is an important diagnostic indicator of GIST. But CD117 prognostic significance is controversial, suggesting that the occurrence and development of GIST are influenced by multiple factors. Meanwhile, CD117 can be expressed in various tumors such as melanoma, acute myeloid leukemia, chromophobe renal cell carcinoma, and pancreatic solid-pseudopapillary tumor, which has assisting diagnostic value. Moreover, the expression level of CD117 in gastro-entero-pancreatic neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC) is significantly higher than that in neuroendocrine tumor (NET), and it is associated with increased pathological grading and lymph node metastasis. In addition, it is in some triple negative breast cancer found that CD117 is strongly positive but C-KIT doesn’t mutate.
