Myeloperoxidase (MPO) is a heme peroxidase that is mainly stored in the azurophilic granules of neutrophils and monocytes. MPO can catalyze the production of hypochlorous acid (HOCl), reactive oxygen species (ROS) and other oxides during the pathogen invasion, exerting killing and protective effects. However, the excessive production of oxides will induce inflammatory reaction and oxidative stress, and even cause cellular carcinogenesis, which plays an important role in atherosclerosis, glomerulonephritis, neurodegenerative diseases and other diseases. MPO is a specific marker of myeloid cells, which becomes an important indicator for the diagnosis and classification of acute myeloid leukemia in clinical practice, and it is related to the prognosis of patients. Meanwhile, MPO is often used in the differential diagnosis between myeloid sarcoma (+) and lymphoma (-). In addition, some studies have found that MPO is expressed to varying degrees in various diseases such as chronic myeloid leukemia, acute lymphocytic leukemia, and myelodysplastic Syndrome, which has potential diagnostic value.
