B-cell lymphoma/leukemia 6 (BCL6) is a transcriptional repressor in the BCL family. It can maintain B cell rapid proliferation by repressing the expression of apoptosis and differentiation related genes. Some research revealed that the BCL6 overproduction caused by gene rearrangement or chromosomal translocation may occur in diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL), thereby enhancing the anti-apoptotic capacity of cancer cells. Therefore, BCL6 has become a specific diagnostic biomarker for DLBCL, and its genetic abnormality is associated with the poor prognosis of patients. Meanwhile, BCL6 can be used to distinguish follicular lymphoma (+) from mantle cell lymphoma (-) and small lymphocytic lymphoma (-). In addition, some scholars pointed out that BCL6 expression level is positively correlated with the malignancy grade of breast cancer, speculated that BCL6 can promote epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in cancer cells. However, the positive rate of BCL6 is significantly decreased in gastric cancer. This may be because BCL6 can regulate tumor progression by indirectly inhibiting the recruitment and tumor promoting effect of inflammatory factors.
