P-glycoprotein (PGP) is an ATP dependent transmembrane pump, which widely exists in organs such as liver, kidney, and digestive tract, as well as in barriers such as the blood-brain barrier and blood-testis barrier. It can inhibit the absorption of exogenous harmful substances and promote the elimination of endogenous toxins, playing an important role in secretion, detoxication, and protection of cells. Some research found that PGP is highly expressed in lung cancer, liver cancer, kidney cancer, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer and other tumors, which is closely related to the poor prognosis of patients. This is because PGP, as a product encoded by multidrug resistance genes, can pump chemotherapy drugs such as vinblastine, taxane, and anthracycline out of cancer cells in reverse concentration. Therefore, PGP has become a diagnostic biomarker for evaluating chemotherapy resistance in clinical practice, and it has guiding significance for treatment plan customization and prognosis evaluation of patients.
