CD2, also known as lymphocyte function associated antigen-2 (LFA-2), can bind to CD58 (LFA-3) to promote the activation of NK cells and T cells and mediate their adhesion to antigen presenting cells or target cells. In clinical practice, CD2 is mainly used for the diagnosis of NK/T cell lymphoma, and it is almost not expressed in B cell lymphoma, which makes it a differential indicator. Moreover, the combination of CD2, CD3, CD5, and CD7 has reference significance for differentiating between reactive lymphoid hyperplasia (RLH) and peripheral T cell lymphoma (PTCL), which is because they are fully expressed in RLH but partially or completely absent in PTCL. Meanwhile, CD2 is found to be expressed in breast cancer, cervical cancer and ovarian cancer, and its expression level is positively correlated with patient prognosis, speculated that CD2 could activate neutrophils and macrophages and weaken the immunosuppression of helper T cells. In addition, some scholars pointed out that CD2 is up-regulated in hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), suggesting that it may be involved in the occurrence and development of the disease.
