Vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2) is the main receptor for vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), mainly exists on the surface of vascular endothelial cells. It plays a core regulatory role in vascular development and angiogenesis. Some research found that VEGFR2 is expressed in various malignant diseases, including lung cancer, liver cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, breast cancer, and prostate cancer. It is closely related to malignant development of tumors and poor prognosis of patients. This is because the binding of VEGFR2 and VEGF can promote tumor angiogenesis and increase vascular permeability to ensure the nutrition supply and invasiveness of cancer cells. Meanwhile, some tumor cells can express VEGF and VEGFR2 on their own, which activate the P13K/AKT signaling pathway through the autocrine pathway to induce epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). In summary, VEGFR2 has become an important reference indicator for patient prognosis evaluation. In addition, some scholars believe that tumors with high expression of VEGFR2 have lower sensitivity to platinum-based drugs.
