NM23 gene is a tumor suppressor gene that can encode a protein with activities of nucleoside diphosphate kinase, histidine kinase, and exonuclease. It is involved in various physiological processes such as gene repairing, transcriptional regulation, cell cycle, and apoptosis. Some research has shown that NM23 can inhibit tumor infiltration and metastasis by suppressing Wnt/β-catenin, JAK2/STAT3, and other signaling pathways, and its expression level in metastatic tumors is significantly lower than that in primary tumors. Therefore, in clinical practice, NM23 can be applied to the research of gastric cancer, lung cancer, thyroid cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer, melanoma and other tumors. Meanwhile, it provides an important reference for the diagnosis of metastatic tumors. However, some scholars point out that NM23 is associated with poor prognosis in ovarian cancer, osteosarcoma, and neuroblastoma. Therefore, the prognostic value of NM23 in different tumors still needs further research.
