BRCA-1

Breast cancer susceptibility gene-1 (BRCA-1) is a tumor suppressor gene. Its encoded product can not only negatively regulate the cell cycle, but also participate in DNA double-strand damage repairing by homologous recombination. Some scholars pointed out that patients with BRCA-1 mutation have significantly increased risk of breast cancer and ovarian cancer, which may be because the mutation will induce the cell cycle checkpoint failure and DNA repairing function decline. So BRCA-1 detection can provide basis for early screening and risk assessment of patients, and tumors with low expression are more sensitive to platinum-based drugs that can cause DNA cross-linking to hinder replication. Later, it has been carried out that the research of BRCA-1 in lung cancer, gastric cancer, bladder cancer, pancreatic cancer, prostate cancer and other cancers, and its expression deletion is related to tumor invasion and metastasis. However, the relationship between BRCA-1 and patient prognosis is still controversial. Currently, the mainstream view is that BRCA-1 positive patients have longer survival time and better prognosis.
