Trichorhinophalangeal syndrome 1 (TRPS1) is a transcription factor with GATA zinc finger structure that participates in regulating the development of bones, cartilages, hair follicles, kidneys, and mammary glands. In clinical practice, TRPS1 has become a highly specific and sensitive novel diagnostic biomarker for breast cancer, and its high expression is considered to be associated with the good prognosis of patients, speculated that it can down-regulate ZEB2 to inhibit the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), and control the coding of cell cycle related genes to adjust the proliferation activity of cancer cells. But its positivity rate is relatively low in the invasive carcinoma with apocrine differentiation, which may be due to the inhibition of its expression by the binding of androgen to its receptors. Meanwhile, TRPS1 is widely expressed in the mammary neuroendocrine tumor (NET) but negative in lung, pancreatic, and gastrointestinal NET, indicating its good identification value. In addition, TRPS1 is highly expressed in synovial sarcoma (SS), which may be because the SS18-SSX fusion protein produced by chromosomal translocation in SS activates the TRPS1 transcription pathway.
