Octomer binding transcription factor-2 (OCT-2) is a specific transcription factor that mainly exists in mature B cells. It can interact with BOB.1 to activate the expression of immunoglobulin (Ig) genes in B cells, thereby participating in B cell proliferation and differentiation. As a highly specific and sensitive B cell marker, OCT-2 can be used to distinguish between B lymphoma (+) and T lymphoma (-). Meanwhile, OCT-2 is diffusely expressed in lymphoma but locally expressed in lymphoid hyperplasia, which makes it become a identification indicator for benign and malignant lesions of the lymphatic system. Moreover, the combination of OCT-2 and BOB.1 plays an important role in the classification of Hodgkin lymphoma. They are both expressed in nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin lymphoma (NLPHL) but will be down-regulated or even absent in classical Hodgkin lymphoma (CHL), which may be the reason for the transcriptional inactivation of Ig genes in R-S cells of CHL. In addition, acute myeloid leukemia patients with high OCT-2 expression have shorter overall survival.
