BCA-225

Breast cancer antigen-225 (BCA-225), also known as BRST-1, is a glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 225KDa secreted by breast cancer cell line T47D. Some research found that BCA-225 can be expressed in adenocarcinoma of multiple organs such as breast, ovary, kidney, and lung. In clinical practice, it is commonly used in combination with CA-125, CA19-9, CEA and other antibodies for the research of metastatic adenocarcinoma. BCA-225 can become a significantly sensitive biomarker for the diagnosis of breast cancer, and it is not expressed in benign breast lesions, which has reference significance for the differentiation between benign and malignant breast tumors. Meanwhile, the expression level of BCA-225 is up-regulated with the increased pathological grade of breast cancer, and the positive rate in HER2 positive tumors is higher than that in HER2 negative tumors, indicating that BCA-225 has potential medical value for the prognosis of patients. In addition, some scholars pointed out that BCA-225 can be applied in the diagnosis of skin cancer. It is expressed in most sweat gland cancers, sebaceous gland cancers, and extramammary Paget's diseases.
