Somatostatin receptor 2 (SSTR2) is a G protein coupled receptor widely present in the central nervous system and peripheral neuroendocrine cells. Its binding to somatostatin (SST) plays a negative regulatory role in various life activities such as pituitary hormone secretion, gastrointestinal motility, and renal blood flow. Some research has found that SSTR2 can be expressed in various neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs), including gastro-entero-pancreatic NEN, small cell lung cancer, pituitary adenoma, etc. Moreover, SSTR2 has tumor inhibition effect, and its expression level in neuroendocrine tumor (NET) is significantly higher than that in neuroendocrine cancer (NEC). This is because SSTR2 can inhibit cell proliferation and induce apoptosis, and may also obstruct cancer metastasis by reducing angiogenic factors and promoting tumor vascular constriction. Meanwhile, SSTR2 is expressed in liver cancer, gastric cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer and other tumors, which is considered as reference basis for good prognosis of patients. In addition, the combination of SSTR2 with SST analogs has become an important pathway for tumor therapy.
